Chakravaaha,
(Jus kiddin). Anyve, lookin fwd 2 d December "musical" posts.

Hi Animagi,
Though I'm not a pet lover, I liked your post very much. Great narrative style. But I was a trifle disappointed when I went thru the comments and found that you really hadn't named ur cat Pulikesi. In fact, I was admiring the original name u had kept 4 ur cat wen I read the post. By the way, what was his real name? Keep going.
Cheers,
Suganth
Hi Satyeki,
Nice blog. I feel you could have included the following movies.
* Sathi Leelavathi ( A class humor film from Balu Mahendra & Kamal Hassan)
* Indru Poi Naala Vaa (A youth comedy from K.Bhagyaraj)

Hi Chakravaaha,
Keep going.
Hi Doc,
) out. Reminds me of one of Vivek's famous one-liners.. Eppadi irundha naan, ippadi aayiten.
Why go to the Oscars?
Hi Suresh,
I don't find anything wrong with sending out an entry for the Oscars. Despite being a predominantly Hollywoody award show, the Oscars have somehow become a benchmark for good movies all over the world. There might be rigging and lobbying but then the winners are definitely better movies.
And I believe Indian movies are eligible by most yardsticks for Oscars. If Britains can take to Bhangra, I'm sure the West would ultimately come to our "Indian Musicals". The acceptance of Chinese Martial Arts movies is a case in point.
As you have rightly pointed out, the only reason why India hasn't got hold of a single statuette is because our politics of selection is very deep and involves everything from region, religion, political swaying and star clout. Thus, whatever is Bollywoody gets preferential and reverential treatment among the jury. There are more than a handful of regional movies (esplyMalayalam & Bengali) that would have brought us Oscars if they had been sent.
As to your question 'Why go to the Oscars', it is the same as why we yearn for a Nobel or an Olympic Gold. Universal Acceptance & Appreciation.
Cheers,
Suganth
